Bonner, T.D., The Life and Adventures of James P. Beckwourth
University of Nebraska Press, Lincoln, 1972. Introduction, notes, and epilogue by Delmont R. Oswald. An excellent reprint of Beckwourth's autobiography, complete with original illustrations. Excellent page by page notes shed a great deal of light on what's true, what's not and what's maybe.

Wilson, Elinor, Jim Beckwourth
University of Oklahoma Press, Norman, 1972. Excellent volume by one of the leading Beckwourth authorities. Fills in a lot of gaps and attempts to resolve some of the controversy that surrounded Beckwourth.
