Dave Stamey: Top Cowboy Performer Comes To Beckwourth Frontier Days
A Montana native who was raised on a ranch in California's Central Coast, Stamey nearly gave singing up for good after years of playing "electrified cheating songs" in night clubs and cocktail lounges. He found smaller crowds more appreciative of his music, however, and has thrived with an acoustic guitar and original songs at county fairs, cowboy poetry gatherings and events like Beckwourth Frontier Days and Feather River Fiddle and Bluegrass Jamboree. In fact, he's so good that he is one of the most popular cowboy entertainers on the stage today. Two years running he was a finalist in the nominations for the Western Music Nominations Male Performer of the Year. In 1998, he was a finalist for Songwriter of the Year and his song, "Montana," was nominated as Song of the Year. Stamey brings his original western songs, which include some yodeling and poetry, to Beckwourth Frontier Days on Saturday and Sunday.
