Time Trek

Carl's Jr. and the local education community are pooling resources to provide in excess of 300 fourth grade students an in-depth and unique historical experience during a special TIME TREK on Friday at Beckwourth Riverfront Park.

Students walking through the enlarged Calistoga wagon marking the entrance to the Beckwourth Frontier Days festival grounds will quickly find themselves transported to the mid-19th century.

In addition to Carl's Jr., the event is being sponsored by the Yuba City Unified School District, the Marysville Joint Unified School District, and the Yuba County Office of Education.

TIME TREK is a half day living history adventure filled with mountain-men, pioneers, gold miners, native Californians, local historical characters and, of course, the Bunyonesque Jim Beckwourth, the African-American mountain man and trail blazer who led the first wagon train into Marysville in 1851.

TIME TREK is central to the mission statement of the non-profit Beckwourth Frontier Days Inc. The organization is mandated to provide educational opportunities, and TIME TREK and Beckwourth Frontier Days are both educational and entertaining.

Ten fourth grade classes will spend approximately 20 minutes in five separate living history areas. A special pioneer lunch will be prepared by Yuba City Unified School District staff. Schools must apply to participate in TIME TREK. Preference is given to schools who have not previously attended the pre-festival event.

The festival grounds and living history areas are not open to the general public on Friday so that the fourth graders can enjoy their experience.
